Tracy Asks:
I am pregnant and nursing with a two year old in the home. I would like to learn what I can safely use to help with energy and positive attitude towards getting off the couch and other things I'm obligated to as an adult. I would also like suggestions for safe uses in early labor for peace and confidence.
Dr. Streicher Answers:
Dear Tracy,
For pregnancy, child birth and the months after birth, I recommend the following books:
- Essential Oils, Carrier Oils, & Pregnancy: A Guide for the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Trimesters by Judy Godec (She over emphasizes the citrus oils though. Be moderate with citrus oils.)
- Safety of Essential Oils in Pregnancy and Childbirth: Guide for Midwives by Denise Tiran
In addition, I highly recommend Roman Chamomile for relaxation and Lemon for energy, mental clarity.
All oils recommended during pregnancy are also fine during nursing.
I do not recommend these two books, due to their lack of decent safety standards:
- Essential Oils for Pregnancy, Birth & Babies by Stephanie Fritz
- Gentle Babies: Essential Oils and Natural Remedies for Pregnancy, Childbirth and Infant Care by Debra Raybern.
If, after reviewing the books recommended above, you still have questions, I would be glad to answer them.
Kindest Regards,
Christoph Streicher, Ph.D.
