In 2001, Amrita® became the first essential oil company in the United States to make the transition into carrying certified organic essential oils and become certified as a company. Every product listed on the website as certified organic has been grown, harvested, distilled and handled without chemicals and other toxic ingredients, according to the USDA/NOP standards.
Botanical purity is only the first step when Amrita® sources essential oils. To verify purity, Amrita® uses gas chromatographic analysis with chiral columns-- the most reliable tool for selecting oils that are 100% derived from the botanical species indicated. All 140 essential oils are tested using gas chromatography and other tests.
Amrita® is fully committed to meeting the highest quality control standards within the industry. Amrita’s wildcrafted line (many of which are certified organic as well) is distilled from plants that grow in their natural habitat or ecosystem, far away from any pesticides or artificial fertilizers. This is the healthiest, most natural growing condition for a particular plant species and yields the finest essential oil. As a bonus, wildcrafted certification makes sure plants are not over harvested, ensuring the sustainability of that particular ecosystem. The ecologically ethical oils come from farms that use no pesticides or artificial fertilizers. Our conventionally farmed oils are selected from conventional farms after careful screening and decades of working together with the cultivators.
Since the company began in 1989, Amrita® has developed strong relationships with hundreds of essential oil producers. Many of these are small family farms who produce a number of different essential oils for aromatherapy purposes. For each new oil harvest, there are always a number of producers available, which allows Amrita® to always be able to choose the finest oil.
The botanical species is clearly listed on the label of each oil as a further guarantee that the oil originates100% from the species and is not cut with cheaper oils or synthetics (particularly so called "nature-identical" compounds) which is a common practice in essential oil production.
Many essential oils worldwide are produced for the flavor, fragrance and toiletry industry, which have no need for a natural product. Many of these oils are industrially processed. So called Nature-identical synthetic substances or other compounds not originating from the plant are commonly added. Amrita® does not accept oils that have been rectified, peroxidized, decolorized, deterpenized, denatured, reconstituted or mixed with other essential oils, lipids, alcohol or other chemical compounds. Amrita® will never create or sell synthetic oils as they are NOT recommended for healing.
Dr. Christoph Streicher, owner and founder, has a Master's Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Wurzburg and a Ph.D. in Physiology from Maharishi University of Management where he studied the relationship of plant life to human consciousness. He was mentored by Jacques Paltz of France, a world-renowned authority on the use of essential oils for both healing and personal skin care.
Studying also with a number of well-known Indian Ayurvedic physicians, Dr. Streicher learned the time-tested therapeutic use of organic essential oils for increasing vitality and balance. (Ayurveda is the 5,000-year-old Vedic medical science that regards physiological balance as the basis of perfect health). He’s a renowned Ayurvedic expert on the use of essential oils for healing and skin care. His training and expertise allow him to create unique healing blends and products that address the whole person—physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. He also advocates a spiritual connection to the plant world.
Dr. Streicher uses his expertise and knowledge of Ayurveda to create healing remedies and skin care products not available elsewhere. As he explains, "The essential oil is the concentrated intelligence of the healing force in the plant--50 to 100 times more powerful than dried herbs. There are molecular structures in the body that correspond to that of the oils so their intelligence can be used for healing." Also, the vibrational qualities of organic oils are much stronger, making them more therapeutic and excellent for healing.
