About the Plant:
The Rose grows on a small prickly shrub, which grows up to 6 feet high. It has pink, very fragrant blooms and whitish hairy leaves. Rose Otto Oil is distilled from the petals of the Bulgarian Damask Rose, and it takes about thirty roses to make one glorious drop of essential oil, making it one of the most expensive oils available. Steam distilled Rose Essential Oil is known as Rose Otto and solvent extracted Rose Oil is known as Rose Absolute. Both are beautiful, intoxicating oils, but there are some differences. Rose Otto can be lighter in color and thinner in viscosity than Rose Absolute. Aromatically, Rose Absolute traditionally can have a heartier, more intense aroma than Rose Otto. Still, Rose Otto is incredibly concentrated and just a little goes a long way.
Where It Grows:
The Damask Rose is native to Northern Persia (modern Iran) and thrives in open, sunny positions. The relatively small flowers grow in groups, and is most commonly grown in West Asia and Eastern Europe. Her petals are handpicked and distilled to produce an aromatic essential oil called ‘Rose Otto’. Rosa damascena is mainly cultivated in Bulgaria, Turkey, and Morocco, but is grown in other areas around the world. Bulgaria and Turkey are most well known for producing this fragrant liquid and are responsible for nearly 80% of the world’s supply.
Traditional Uses and Lore:
The rose is steeped in myth and magic, and revered by many cultures for its physical beauty and mesmerizing fragrance.* It has been regarded as the 'Queen of all Flowers' and its oil as a 'Gift of Heaven'.* Rose blossoms have long symbolized beauty, love, passion and harmony.*
Elusive and mysterious, the fragrance of roses and the romance surrounding them are legendary.* For instance, Cleopatra supposedly entertained Marc Anthony in a room filled with 18 inches of rose petals, and the sails of her ship were soaked with rose water so that "the very winds were lovesick."* At a seventeenth-century Persian royal wedding, rose petals were floated on garden canals filled with rose water.* Such lavishness attests to both the literal and figurative power of rose fragrance.*

Rose Otto Turkish Organic Essential Oil can inspire the best in everyone.* Rose Oil and Rosewater are extensively used as fragrance components in skincare preparations, perfumes, soaps, and food flavoring.* The chemical composition of Turkish Rose Otto is distinguishable from that of Bulgarian Rose Otto due to the higher percentages of citronellol and geraniol. This results in Turkish being a bit more sweet and stronger in aroma than the Bulgarian.
Rose Otto has been revered throughout history for its heart-opening, calming, and uplifting qualities.* It helps balance the female cycle and is helpful for insomnia and irritability.* Rose is known to uplift personal love to universal love.*
