About the Plant:
Spanish Marjoram Essential Oil, also called Mastic Thyme, is steam distilled from the leaves and flowering tops of the Thymus mastichina herb. This herb is more like an evergreen shrub. It has tiny whitish flowers that open into dusty pink buds. Normally, they grow in small clusters that appear during the summer months of July and August. With its bright powerful scent, Spanish Marjoram makes a nice addition to topical salves and stimulating diffuser blends.*
Where It Grows:
Spanish Marjoram is native to the Iberian Peninsula of Portugal and Spain. It can be found growing wild in the Mediterranean; thus, it is popular with herbalists the world over. Its appearance is actually more similar to Thyme than Marjoram, which is reflected in the plant’s botanical name.
Traditional Uses and Lore:
Traditionally, Spanish Marjoram was used as an infusion to ease coughs, colds, and influenza in Spain and Portugal.* Today, it is used in a plethora of immune boosting treatments.* When diluted and blended in a carrier oil, then massaged on to the chest: Spanish Marjoram can help to boost circulation and strengthen immunity to common coughs and colds.*
