About the Plant:

Citrus reticulata, an evergreen tree, grows up to 18 ft high displaying glossy leaves and fragrant white flowers that bear yellow-range fruits when ripe. Although the Tangerine and Mandarin are very similar, the Tangerine fruit is larger and rounder with a more yellow-hued skin than the Mandarin fruit.

Picture a small, vibrant tree adorned with fruits at the tips of its branches. Growing from seeds, Tangerine trees take approximately 15 years to reach maturity and bear fruits. However, when cultivated from cuttings, they can start producing fruit in as little as two to three years. Known for its richer flavor, sweeter taste, and thinner peel compared to other oranges, the Tangerine fruit is a true delight for the senses.

The production of Tangerine Essential Oil involves a meticulous cold press process. The rinds of the fruit are gently squeezed until the natural oil sacs burst and release the oil. Through careful separation of oil and water, the essential oil is extracted. This method not only results in a high-quality oil but also contributes to reducing waste and maximizing the use of the entire fruit.

Where It Grows:

Tangerines are native to tropical Asia and China. From there, they have spread to other parts of the world. This edible fruit may have originated from the tropical and subtropical regions in Southeast Asia, but is now mainly cultivated in southern Europe and United States.

Traditional Uses and Lore:

Originally from Tangier, a charming Moroccan seaport, Tangerines were the first to make their way to Europe. From Tangier to China, Europe to India, the story of the Tangerine is one of global fascination and wellness.

But did you know that Tangerines have a rich history in traditional medicine? In Ancient Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, Tangerines were valued for their healing properties. They have been used for over 3,000 years to treat digestive disorders and promote overall health.* Ancient Chinese doctors also harnessed the power of Tangerine extract to address ailments like gout and sexual dysfunction.*

The wonders of tangerine essential oils eventually reached the shores of Europe and India. The French embraced their healing properties, particularly for elderly and young patients with digestive issues.* Meanwhile, in Ayurveda, the Ancient Indian system of medicine, Tangerines became highly valued for their ability to detoxify, boost mental clarity, and strengthen the immune system.*

Today, Tangerine Essential Oils are cherished worldwide for their uplifting aromas and therapeutic effects. From boosting immunity to enhancing mental clarity, Tangerine Oils have become a must-have for holistic healing practices.
