About the Plant:
Vetiver Oil is distilled from the roots of a tall perennial grass. It has been revered for centuries in India, where it is utilized for its cooling, nourishing, and centering qualities. In Sri Lanka, it is called the “Aroma of Tranquility.”
Its distinctively warm and smoky scent is said to get better with age. Vetiver is also cultivated to replenish the soil and prevent erosion. In perfumery Vetiver is an important base-note constituent, acting as a rich fixative for many perfumes.
Where it Grows:
Vetiver is native to Tropical Southeast Asia, as well as India and Haiti. Amrita Aromatherapy is proud to receive Organic Vetiver from Haiti.
Traditional Uses and Lore:
In Indian households, vetiver roots are woven and used as sleeping mats. Due to the insect-repelling properties of vetiver, these mats are free from pests. Since ancient times in India, vetiver aromatic roots have been used as perfumes for their warm, fragrant, and insect-repelling properties.
